Detailed Description
Kenya's destinations will delight you with their idiosyncrasy and no two of your days on safari will ever be the same. One morning you will walk across the Mara plains with Maasai warrior guides, wandering alongside huge zebra herds and the next afternoon, you will be picnicking by a river to watch the lions clash with buffalo. The focus of a game drive in Ol Pejeta is East Africa's finest population of wild rhinos, as you will travel north to Samburu and your safari will be filled with rare sightings of gerenuk, dik-dik, palm-nut vultures and the three big cats. Such diverse and distinctive landscapes bring a cast of wildlife that shifts and the destination's inimitability is enhanced by its array of safari activities.
This 13-day safari brings you to Kenya's flagship destinations visiting a mix of private conservancies and national reserves to offer the complete safari experience. You will hop across the country in light aircraft, from Ol Pejeta in the center to Samburu in the north, then the Maasai Mara in the southwest and Diani Beach on the eastern coast of the Indian Ocean. This style of fly-in safari will keep this ambitious itinerary moving seamlessly as each hour long flight will catapult you from one wilderness to another. Vast herds roam beneath the wingtips, and you will enjoy an incredible aerial safari experience with every flight before you are picked up in a safari vehicle for a game drive transfer to the camp.
Each safari destination is rugged and wild and immerses you in the beautiful landscapes of East Africa. Each camp or lodge is luxurious and serene, a peaceful base to complement the drama of the plains. Often, you will need to lounge on your terrace to enjoy poignant safari moments, like a procession of wildlife approaching the river or thousands of wildebeest roaming past in the Maasai Mara.
After a night in Nairobi, you will begin your safari in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a small yet eclectic private conservancy. Without much effort, you will get to see all of the most quintessential animals, as well as the rare, and usually elusive, rhino. Among their population are the only three Northern white rhinos remaining in the wild. Samburu is an amazing expression of space and wilderness, and it will feel as though you are a thousand miles from the rest of the world, lost in a landscape of roaming antelope and stealthy predators. Samburu warriors lead your safari, and there will always be an element of surprise, like an unusual antelope or rare species that's only seen in Samburu. You will be staying in the adjacent and unfenced Kalama Wildlife Conservancy, allowing for both exclusive walking safari and long game drives in the central reserve.
Move next to the Maasai Mara and four days in Africa's most famous safari destination. In the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, you will enjoy a private Mara experience, with Maasai warrior guides revealing the intricacies of the endless grass plains. Exclusive Mara walking safaris are available here, along with game drives that always bring out the big cats. For predator and prey encounters, there are few places quite like the Maasai Mara; it's not just about spotting the lions and leopards, you will be watching them on the move. Mara Naboisho is a private conservancy, and you can drive off road to enjoy the ultimate close-ups.
You will complete your big game safari in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, staying at a camp close to the Mara River. Wildebeest and zebra are everywhere, and it is this abundance that makes the Maasai Mara such an unforgettable experience. Game drives and river picnics continue to showcase the drama of these plains. After eight days of safari, you will swap bush for the beach and three days on Kenya's pristine Indian Ocean coastline. Just like the wilderness reserves, there are very few other tourists around. It will just be you, the white sand and the tropical forest backdrop with the soft lapping of the waves. As always, you will be flying into the destination to enjoy exceptional accommodation.
