Day 1
Zagreb – Soaking Up the First Croatian Flavors
Zagreb will be quick to impress on the senses as a capital city that blends what is new and old of Croatia. Church spires rise crookedly above the cobbled streets, modern apartment blocks juxtapose with tiny alleyways, and the markets deliver a great range of flavors. Touch down in the capital city, and your guide will greet you at arrivals, and then bring you to a five-star hotel in the heart of Old Town. The day will be at your leisure and there is a lot to find when walking the streets around the hotel. Like all capital cities, Zagreb is a mix of influences from across the country, so there will be many good options for your first Croatian dinner.

Detailed Description
Croatian cuisine has its roots in generational recipes passed down over many centuries. You can taste this tradition at family olive oil estates and konoba restaurants, where the food is as organic and local as it always has been. Coastal Adriatic villages are also doused in culinary heritage, whether it is plucking oysters from the rocks or dining where the fishermen dine. Croatia now has an innovative streak, and there is a new world of flavor as well that includes the world’s first underwater winery, glamorous restaurants built within medieval city walls, and the next generation of Istrian and Dalmatian dining. The mix of old and new is at the heart of this luxury gourmet tour. For every new winery, there is a taste of local plum rakia, and from truffle hunting in the forest you can head to contemporary coastal dining.
Handcrafted for the curious palate, this 2-week luxury tour will mix culinary experiences with iconic highlights. You will taste your way across the country from Zagreb through Istria and onto Dalmatia, where you will end with several nights in Dubrovnik. Along the way, there will be island hopping, product tasting, oyster picking, seafood dining, wine and olive oil tasting, local markets, waterfalls, and a singing sea organ. Some of the flavors are fiercely traditional while others reflect the changing styles of Eastern European cuisine. Expect lots of superb seafood as all but two days are on the coast, along with the full range of old and new recipes.
Zagreb is an intriguing city to start with, and you will explore its food from an electric Ford Model T replica tour. Spend the next couple of days in Istria with truffle hunting and product tasting while also discovering cities like Pula and Rovinj. Travel through Plitvice Lakes to Zadar next, and then through Trogir to Split. There will be fine seafood dining in Split before a couple of days on the island of Hvar, where wine and olive oil tasting is complemented by two unique dining experiences. Compare Hvar’s flavors with Korcula, and then pass through Drace and Ston on route to Dubrovnik. Oysters and underwater wine are just two of the highlights from these small towns before Dubrovnik balances the glitzy dining with a small village culinary experience.
