Immersive Southern Italy and Sicily Tour: Food, Culture, and History

After breakfast this morning, you will transfer to Naples. Along the way, you will stop in Cassino for a tour of the Montecassino Abbey. The Abbey was founded in 529 AD by Saint Benedict and has a storied history. You will then continue to Naples and your luxurious accommodation. When you are ready, you will set out for a private pizza-making course at an authentic pizzeria. Naples is considered the birthplace of pizza, and during this experience, you will learn the steps to crafting traditional Neapolitan pizza from a professional.

This morning, you will depart the city and transfer to the city of Salerno, which is ideally located along the coast. The ancient city of Pompeii will be a great place to stop and explore along the way. A private guide will lead you on a tour of this intriguing site. Once a lively city, Pompeii was buried under volcanic ash after an eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Once your tour concludes, you will continue to Salerno, where you will have the remainder of the evening to explore at your leisure. After a relaxing breakfast, you will board a ferry for the scenic ride to the island of Sicily. Once on board, you can indulge in all that the ferry has to offer. In the evening, you will dine on a multi-course meal before arriving in the beautiful city of Palermo. Palermo is the capital of Sicily and has a rich history that dates back to 734 BC. The evening will be yours to spend however you see fit.

After you have had some free time after breakfast, you will embark on a walking food tour of the city with an expert guide. Delectable scents will fill the air as you traverse the winding roads of the city. One of the first stops of your tour will be a local restaurant, where you will sample some of the typical dishes of Sicily. As you continue, you will pass through the thriving Capo Market before your tour concludes at an authentic bakery. Here, you can sample the shop’s sweet cannoli.

After a leisurely morning, you will explore more of the history of the city on a guided tour of its highlights. As your guide leads you around the ancient roads, you will first come to the grand Palermo Cathedral. Dating back to the 12th century, the stunning Cathedral is known for its multiple architectural styles. The next stop of your tour will be the Royal Palace. After your tour, you will be free to explore more of the history, culture, and lifestyle of Palermo on your own.

After breakfast this morning, you will transfer to Agrigento. The gorgeous Sicilian landscape will surround you as you journey around the winding roads. Upon your arrival in Agrigento, you will check in to your accommodation and have some time to relax. Soon, your guide will lead you on a tour of the Valley of the Temples. The ancient Valley of the Temples is considered the premier archeological site in all of Sicily and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After your tour, you will have the rest of the evening to spend at your leisure.

Today will be your final day in Italy. You will have some time this morning to enjoy a short stroll through the city or to do some last-minute souvenir shopping. After collecting your belongings, you will transfer to the airport for your flight home.
