Rome – Center of an Empire

Rome is a city of iconic splendor encapsulating the Western History stretching from the Atlantic coastline into the Middle East with images of antiquity and ancient Christianity. Your flight arrives at Fiumicino Airport in Rome. Your private transfer meets you at baggage claim and escorts you to historic city center. Your luxurious accommodations were once a private villa belonging to a noble family. The opulent interior, from the marble floors to the gilded windows, provides insight into the lavish past of the family and the preserved integrity of the grounds, making the villa comparable to a living museum. After settling into the comforts of your room, you meet your guide in the lobby ready for your introductory tour of the city once at the heart of an empire. The Trevi Fountain cascades with splendor beneath the proud figure of Oceanus. Cobblestone streets narrow and widen between medieval and renaissance tower homes.

The Pantheon was erected in the 1st century AD under the patronage of Emperor Hadrian. The former pagan temple has a marvelous dome that has inspired architects and artists throughout the millennia due to its marvelous height of 142 feet. Your guide takes you past the 16 stellar columns decorating the portico, and along the marble-paved interior. You feel an overwhelming sense of harmony that you can’t place. Your guide explains the sensation stems from the architectural symmetry. The diameter of the interior circle contains the same dimensions as the height of the Oculus.

Detailed Description

There is no better way to stretch your body and mind than on an 8-day yoga retreat on the outskirts of Rome. Combine the splendors of the imperial capital with the authentic charm of a rural town in the Sabine Hills. Relax with an active lifestyle painting, trekking, cooking, or exploring at a pace you prefer to find your center in the heart of Italy. Your journey begins with your arrival at the Fiumicino airport in Rome. Your private transfer escorts to the historic city center where you settle into your luxurious hotel located in what was once a noble palace. Meet your private guide in the lobby to tour the historic walkways, piazzas, and monuments, including the harmonious design of the Pantheon.

The following day, you wake up with an encompassing tour of ancient Rome, taking in the Roman Forum, Colosseum, and both the Palatine and Capitoline hills. Your private transfer escorts you out of Rome to the charming medieval village of Caserta, located in the Sabine Hills. Take the time to explore the villa and the town before enjoying dinner. The following morning, your yoga retreat begins with a morning session before you partake in a horseback riding tour of the countryside. Relish the challenge and relaxation of morning and afternoon sessions of yoga divided by a refreshing visit to the thermal baths at Viterbo.

Next, you partake in a delightful watercolor painting class to capture the splendor of the hills, vineyards, olive orchards, and medieval townscape after participating in your morning yoga ritual. Then, you once again have two yoga sessions. Divide your class with time wandering along the narrow lanes of Caserta and a cooking class situated in a cooking school that was once a farmhouse. Learn the specialties of the Roman countryside in a class focused on organic cuisine with ingredients taken from the garden and farm on the property.

You indulge in your final morning yoga class before returning to the palatial comforts of your hotel in Rome. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to discover the treasures of the Eternal City. Relish a gelato tour of the historic center or visit Vatican City for a remarkable artistic journey through the centuries. On the final day, your private transfer meets you at the hotel and escorts you to Rome’s international airport for your flight home.

Italy Trip Review: Rome, Florence, Tuscany, Amalfi Coast, Pope Francis’ Funeral, Wine, Cuisine, Culture, Museums, Relaxation, 10 Nights

Zicasso’s tour operator planned the most amazing trip to Italy for us! My requirements were culture, romance, and relaxation. She delivered on every aspect. Although we missed our tour of the Vatican due to the Pope's funeral, my husband and I actually attended his funeral!! Our hotel, though planned many months before, was next to the basilica where Pope Francis was laid to rest. Talk about being a part of history!

We stayed in a beautiful converted villa to boutique hotel in Florence; got whisked away through the Tuscan countryside in a vintage Fiat 500; took cooking classes; sipped lovely wine, accompanied by excellent lunches on our winery tours; soaked in Italy's rich culture and museum scene; and even ticked the relaxation box by spending time by the pool, in the spa, and resting on our large deck overlooking the Amalfi coastline.

Every tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and personable, and it was evident they loved their jobs. Between memories of the boat ride along the Amalfi Coast, tips from the cooking classes I have already started using at home, and the cases of wine we are eagerly awaiting delivery of, my husband and I will forever hold Italy in our hearts and la dolce vita it provided us.

Talk with our tour operator; you will be glad you did!

Italy Travel Review: Rome, Vatican, Amalfi Coast, Private Guides, Limoncello, Wine, Local Cuisine, Culture, Scenery, 10-Day Trip

Zicasso's travel agent was like our “patron saint of hassle-free and VIP vacations!" Every step of our trip was planned for us; we were greeted by private guides at each airport or train station, and met in the lobby of our hotel for each privately guided tour. We went to the front of the line at the Vatican on a day when the line stretched over a mile. Each night she sent us a detailed itinerary for the next day’s tours and on our free days she even gave us suggestions for local restaurants.

I have traveled pretty extensively for work and pleasure, and this trip was so well organized by this travel agency. I cannot recommend them any higher. If you want a truly memorable and hassle-free vacation, you must use them; you will not be disappointed! Thank you so much for creating a true “trip of a lifetime."

Italy Trip Review: Rome, Colosseum, Vatican, Cooking Class, Fresco Painting Experience, 1 Week

We could not be more pleased with the itinerary Zicasso’s travel specialist organized on our behalf. We were visiting Rome with our daughter, son-in-law, and 11-year-old twin granddaughters. From our pick-up at the airport to our final drop-off heading home, everything ran like clockwork.

The tours of the Colosseum and the Vatican, our cooking class, and fresco art painting experience were all well-suited to every member of the family. The guides and hostesses were all lovely, very knowledgeable, and made every experience memorable, especially for our grandchildren. We would not hesitate to recommend the travel specialist to anyone looking for a truly authentic Roman adventure.

Italy Vacation Review: Rome, Naples, Ravello, Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Colosseum, Vatican, Wine Tasting, Local Cuisine, Private Guide, Private Boat Ride, 8-Day Trip

Zicasso matched us up with two Italian travel agencies. We provided our dates of travel and approximate travel budget per person. Each agency gave us a preliminary itinerary. We were able to request changes to the itinerary and then chose the one that we preferred. The communication through the Zicasso website was easy and comprehensive.

Our entire trip went off without a single problem. We stayed at a very nice apartment in Rome, 1,000 feet from the Colosseum. We had very knowledgeable private tour guides for the Colosseum and the Vatican, allowing us to skip all of the entrance lines. We had private transfers from the airport to the apartment and from the apartment to the train station. We took a train from Rome to Naples and had another private transfer to a very nice hotel in Ravello. We did a private boat tour of the Amalfi Coast with a captain and a first mate. Drinks and snacks were included. We did a guided hike, which ended at a farm-to-table lunch. We spent a morning in Pompeii, followed by a local wine tasting and lunch.

Every part of the vacation exceeded our expectations. The accommodations were fantastic. The planned activities were just what we were looking for. We still had enough free time to explore on our own and choose which restaurants we wanted to eat at each evening. I feel like we got a great deal for what we paid and would definitely book a vacation through Zicasso again.

Italy Trip Review: Rome, Florence, Vatican, Sistine Chapel, Colosseum, 2 Weeks

Zicasso set us up with a wonderful travel agent. The process of choosing and communicating through the Zicasso system was easy and helpful.

The travel specialist and her team planned a wonderful 15-day trip, with nine days in Rome and four days in Florence. She found us great accommodations that included a kitchen, which was a must for us. Other travel agents were not able to provide such accommodations.

The drivers we had were professional and picked us up on time. The guides were experts in their field and generally had taught at universities. The guides were very personable and tailored the tours to our interests.

She arranged all the necessary skip-the-line tours. We went to the Vatican with three different tours: the Sistine Chapel, the Gardens, and the necropolis to see St. Peter's tomb.

There were a couple of hiccups in this perfectly planned itinerary. Each time, the travel specialist and her staff were immediately available and guided us through solutions, such as trying to get to the Colosseum during the Roman Marathon.

Italy Trip Review: Rome, Florence, Tuscany, Vatican, Colosseum, Cooking Class, Food Tour, Cheese Sampling, Wine Tasting, 10 Nights

We've taken many family vacations over the years, but we all agreed this was the best one yet!

The team at Zicasso’s travel company did an exceptional job tailoring the perfect trip for our family. Every detail was thoughtfully planned, making the entire experience seamless and truly enjoyable from start to finish.

We had wonderful drives and knowledgeable, engaging tour guides who made each destination come to life. Some of our favorite highlights include a hands-on cooking class in Florence, exploring the beautiful Tuscan countryside, and having effortless access to iconic sites like the Vatican and the Colosseum.

The experiences were unforgettable, from the best food tour in Rome to a fun and unique golf-cart tour through the city. We also loved visiting a Parmigiano-Reggiano factory and a Parma ham producer, along with an extra-special stop at the Ferrari Museum that was such a memorable surprise.

Every moment felt thoughtfully curated and we came home with incredible memories that we will cherish for years to come. We highly recommend the travel company to anyone looking for a truly personalized and exceptional travel experience.
